Science Tip # 4
Talent alone isn't enough.
Hard work can beat talent when
talent doesn't work hard!
K-2 |
3rd-5th |
K-2 students are graded using the O, S, N, U system.
O-Outstanding Students who master and extend concepts earn the score of O. (on grade level at advanced level) S-Satisfactory Students who master concepts earn the score of S. (on grade level at proficient level) N-Needs Improvement Students who have a basic understanding of the concepts but who are struggling to reach mastery. (approaching grade level) U-Unsatisfactory Students who are having great difficulty with the subject and who have limited understanding of most concepts. (below grade level) |
andandThird-fifth grade students earn grades based on percentage scores and the school's grading scale.
92 % - 100% A 83 % - 91 % B 74 % - 82 % C 66 % - 73 % D 0 % - 65 % F Students earn grades in the following ways: Any tests, quizzes, or worksheets are scored using percentages. (Number of correct items divided by number of items equals percent score.) Writing assignments, extended response items, projects, presentations, and hands-on activities will be graded with a rubric. The rubrics will then be converted to a percentage score. (Students will be shown or the rubrics and requirements before they begin the assignment.) In grades 3-5, yellow folders and Google Classroom are an essential part of class and will be graded. Devices and folders should be brought to each class. In the yellow folders, students will keep materials they need to finish in future class periods as well as homework assignments. In Google Classroom, students will complete digital assignments and save their work in digital binders. These materials will serve as study aides before tests and as a tool for weekly review. Correctly organized content is essential to increased understanding and points will be awarded during random checks. Science grades are also weighted. This means that any in-class assignments (products, tests, quizzes, activity pages, writings, etc.) are worth more than take-home activities (homework or projects). |
